The new Tiburtina Station in Rome designed by ABDR is a result of an international architecture competition dating in 2002. An international, regional and metropolitan node designed as a bridge-station between two districts, Pietralata and Nomentano, which have been historically separated by the railway line.
The huge block is a 240m long glass parallelepiped suspended at nine metres above the existing rail tracks, measuring fifty meters in width at a constant height of 10.5m and divided into eight volumes for the services offered to travellers and local citizens.

Product used

For this extraordinary project ABDR chose Cotto d’Este BUXY tiles collection, porcelain stoneware 1.4 cm thick, made with unique manufacturing process which gives superior technical performance and aesthetic characteristics: pressed three times, fired at 1230 degrees for over 90 minutes. 

In particular for the flooring of the new station were employed over 40,000 square meters of Buxy in size 30x60x1,4cm.
