Porcelain Stoneware Guide

What is porcelain stoneware?

Porcelain stoneware is a ceramic material produced from a fine mixture of high-quality clays, feldspars, and sands. It is pressed at high pressure and fired at temperatures exceeding 1,200°C, undergoing a sintering process that ensures complete vitrification. The result is a compact, resistant, frost-proof, waterproof, and durable surface.

Due to these characteristics, porcelain stoneware is an ideal solution for floors and wall coverings in residential, commercial, and architectural contexts, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Types of Porcelain Stoneware

Thanks to the sintering process of raw materials, various types of porcelain stoneware can be obtained, each with distinct characteristics and technical performances:

  • Traditional thickness (9-10 mm): the most common solution for residential and commercial flooring and coverings. The Blustyle line by Cotto d'Este is ideal for standard projects, ensuring quality, durability, and refined style.
  • Increased thickness (14-20 mm): designed for high-traffic areas or outdoor applications. Porcelain stoneware from the 14MM line is three times stronger than standard thicknesses, providing maximum load resistance and anti-slip surfaces ideal for terraces, pathways, driveways, and pool edges.
  • Ultra-thin thickness (3.5-6.5 mm): lightweight, flexible, and durable, offering new design possibilities. The large slabs of the Kerlite line reach sizes of 120x278 cm and are perfect for facades, curved surfaces, furnishing elements, and quick renovations without demolition.

Technical Features

  • Compactness and non-absorbency
  • Resistance to impacts, scratches, thermal shocks, and chemical agents
  • Long-lasting color stability, even under direct sunlight
  • Hygienic and easy-to-clean surfaces
  • High fire resistance (non-combustible and safe)
  • Dimensional stability and high-precision rectification

Safe, Durable, and Versatile

Porcelain stoneware is a responsible choice, produced using natural and widely available raw materials, fully compliant with current regulations. All water and waste materials (both raw and fired) are recovered during the production process, and at the end of its life, the product can be easily recycled. Its high technical performance ensures durability and resistance to scratches, impacts, and thermal shocks.
